There is hope in the open
Hello, I’m Jamie. I’m glad you’ve stopped by!
This website came from a desire to extend a heart of hospitality and transparency beyond my own living room. To share hope through all the things I love: writing, original music projects, food, traveling, pastoring, family memories, home design, crafting beautiful events and hosting community in The Little White Barn. HOPE IN THE OPEN is a creative tool for connection and gathering.
The phrase, HOPE IN THE OPEN, came to me as I was writing a song. Through an incredibly challenging and seemingly never ending season of healing from tragedy, God suddenly broke through to me with a scripture from Psalm 18:19 -
“He brought me out into a wide open space; He rescued me because he delighted in me.”
I had been trying to handle life alone, even with a husband and family and friends. I was holding pain closely, while giving the world my best smile. But I was dying inside. Through a dream and through music, God slowly and gently pulled me out into the openness He had waiting. Openness with myself, with people. He allowed me to breathe and showed me where to find the professional help I needed; and I’ve never been the same.
Like you, I hold a variety of titles in my life: wife, daughter, pastor, a mom to three really cool kids, artist, friend, among others titles. My calling, however, never changes with the ebb and flow of hats I wear. I am here on this earth to create intentional and beautiful environments where people can be seen, known and loved, and where they can seek and know Jesus.
Sometimes, that is as a worship pastor or in a conversation. Sometimes, it’s as I feed baby Oaks or make Oliver and Emery pancakes. Sometimes, it’s in a song. Sometimes, it’s letting the neighbors use our barn for a birthday party.
I want my home and my voice in the world to reflect this place of openness, courage, connection and restoration. I want you, friend, to find a home here (or in my actual home!) as I share what is honest and real, what is life-giving and what awakens joy.
There is hope in openness, in vulnerability, in sharing the parts of life to mourn and the parts of life to be celebrated. I would love to link arms with you and do just that.
